Surah Memorization Program 2014

Surah Memorization Program

Date: March 15, 2014 Saturday; Time: 10 am – 2:00 pm
Venue: Iselin Middle School

Surah’s to Memorize:
Level: 7, 8 & 9:        Surah Al-Hadeed, Al-Mujaadalah & Al-Hashr
                                 (choose any one)
Level: 5 & 6:            Surah Al-Najm, Al-Waqi’ah, & Al-Qamar
                                  (choose any one)
Level: 3 & 4:            Surah Al-Jumuah, Al-Munaafiqoon, & Al-Tagabun
                                 (choose any one)
Level: 1 & 2:            Surah Al-Layl, Al-Shams & Al-Balad
                                 (choose any one)

Evaluation:
Huffaz will listen to the entire surah and grade students based on the following criteria:

  1. Complete memorization of the surah
  2. Number of mistakes made during the recitation
    Examples of mistakes are:

Skipping a word in an ayat, skipping an ayat, requiring the hafiz to remind of an ayat, incorrect pronunciation of a word (excluding major tajweed rules), wrong harakat on the end of a word (Example: saying a fatha at the end of a word instead of dumma), etc.

  1. Please note that although strict tajweed rules will not be enforced, students are expected to make an effort to recite the memorized surah with tajweed.
  2. All participants must be memorizing the surah for the first time.

Feedback from the Hufaz:

  • Each participant will recite a portion of the memorize surah in front of the huffaz.
  • Each hafiz will provide written recommendations for the student to improve in his or her recitation.

Awards:

  1. Students with 3 (three) or fewer mistakes will receive the first prize.
  2. Students with 4 (Four) to 6 (six) mistakes will be eligible for the second prize.
  3. All participants with at least half memorization of a surah will be eligible for a participant trophy.
  4. Partial or incomplete memorization of a surah will not be eligible for any award.
  5. Students can choose ONLY one surah assigned to their grade level or select a surah above their grade level.
  6. Pre-K and K-G students can participate by memorizing any surah mentioned above

MCNJ Sunday School Closed This Sunday Dec 29, 2013

Assalaamu Alaykum  wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakaatuhu,

MCNJ Sunday School will be closed this Sunday Dec 29th due to unavailability of public school for winter break

Sunday School Is Open This Sunday 15th Dec

As Salaam Alikum,

Insha’Allah Sunday school is open tomorrow Sunday 15th Dec. Parents are kindly requested to drop off your children close to the school entrance.

School starts sharp at 10:00 AM, all the students should be inside the school premises before 10:00 AM.  Try to arrive at-least 5 to 10 minutes before 10:00 AM.

Hajj by Vision Poster Competition 2013

MCNJ Islamic Sunday School is conducting  a poster competition to create HAJJ awareness among young Muslims. All students are encouraged to participate. (Due date: 10th November 2013)

Pre-K, KG & Level 1:
Drawings, Pictures, Cut outs and Writings, Coloring, Drawing, Arts and Crafts:

Topic: Five Pillars of Islam & Kaabah

Level 2, 3 & 4:
Drawings, Pictures, Cut outs and Writings, Coloring, Drawing, Arts and Crafts:
Topic:

  1. Dua’a the Talbiyah
  2. Takbirat Al Eid
  3. What is Eid Al-Adha (Animals that can be sacrificed on Eid Al Adha)

Level 5, 6 & 7:
Drawings, Pictures, Cut outs and Writings, Coloring, Drawing, Arts and Crafts:

Use bigger font so that it is clearly readable from at least one meter distance.

Topic:

  1. History of Kaabah
  2. Hajj rituals
  3. Last sermon of Prophet Muhammad PBUH at Jabal-e-Rahmat, (Waquf-e-Arafa)

Level 8, 9 & High School:
Drawings, Pictures, Cut outs and Writings, Coloring, Drawing, Arts and Crafts:

Use bigger font so that it is clearly readable from at least one meter distance.

Topic:

  1. History of Hajj
  2. Virtues of 10 days of dhul Hijjah
  3. Important places of Hajj and Importance of Hajj
  4. Sacrifices of Prophet Ibrahim (as) and his dua’a
  5. Current expenses of Hajj from US and how to prepare

Timelines and Rules:
1) Due date: Sunday, November  10, 2013
2) No poster will be accepted after the due date
3) Parents of students Pre-K, KG, Level 1, 2 and 3 can help their child(ren)
4) Only one size poster allowed (22” x 28”)
5) Write your name and grade on the top right hand corner of the poster
6) Write the name of the topic in the top middle part of the poster
7) Any color, poster card or poster paper is acceptable
8) Any kind of color pencil, markers, crayon, oil paint, and calligraphy is acceptable
9) Internet search – cut & paste is permissible

Eid-ul-Adha Mubarak

Assalaam Alaikum Warahmatullah Wa Barkatahu,

To celebrate Eid-ul-Adha MCNJ Islamic Sunday School will be providing Pizza for all students during lunch tomorrow Sunday Oct 20th 2013.

School timings are (10.00am to 1.30pm) please be prompt to school so that your children go to their classes on time.
