Midterm Exam Study Guide

We covered Unit C Chapters 1-5, and Unit D Chapters 1-3. All exam questions will be multiple choice and matching/ordering.
For the exam, please make sure your child knows:
I. The Five Pillars of Islam (Foundation of Islam)
a. Shahada (Ash’hadu an la ilaha illa-Allah wa ash’hadu anna Muhamadan rasuluhu)
i. It means: I believe in only one God, Allah, and Muhammad (SAW) is the Messenger of Allah
ii. Every time we say the shahada we will get hasanat (reward) from Allah

b. Salah (prayer)
i. Muslims pray 5 times a day
ii. We pray in the direction of the Kabah no matter where we are in the world.
iii. The Kabah is in the city of Makkah
iv. Praying is the way we show Allah that we love Him and thank him.

c. Sawm/fasting (during month of Ramadan)
i. Fasting means not eating or drinking from sunrise to sunset.

d. Zakat/Charity (giving money to the poor)
i. Muslims should always help out others when we can.

e. Hajj/pilgrimage to Makkah
i. Muslims must go for Hajj at least once in their life if they can pay for it.
ii. Hajj is done in the city of Makkah.

II. The Five Daily Prayers (please help them memorize in order). Praying Salah is the key to Jannah/Heaven!
a. Fajr
b. Dhuhr
c. Asr
d. Maghrib
e. Isha
III. The steps of making wudu and why we purify ourselves before praying.
a. They will be shown pictures with wudhu steps and asked to number them in order.
i. Niyyah/intention
ii. Say “Bismillah”
iii. Wash hands 3x
iv. Rinse mouth 3x with right hand
v. Rinse nose 3x with left hand
vi. Wash face 3x
vii. Wash arms up until elbows 3x
viii. Wipe head from front to back
ix. Wipe inside and backside of ears
x. Wash both feet 3x (first the right, then the left foot)
xi. Say the Shahada!
b. Please review what breaks wudhu (i.e. sleeping, going to the bathroom, passing gas)
c. When we leave the bathroom, step out with the RIGHT foot and say “Ghufraanak” (It means, “O Allah, I want your forgiveness”)
IV. Ramadan is the month of fasting
V. Muslims are brothers and sisters of one another
a. Muslims live all over the world
b. All Muslims believe in One Allah and the Prophet Muhammad (saw) is the last messenger
c. All Muslims pray towards Al-Ka’bah in Makkah
d. All Muslims love the three holy cities: Makkah, Madinah, and Al-Quds (Jerusalem)
VI. When muslims greet one another, we should say “Assalamu’alaykum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu.”
a. This earns 30 hasanat!
b. It means “Peace be upon you.”
VII. Muslims celebrate 2 major holidays, Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha
